THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Oct. 30, 2012 – User Friendly Media, the second largest independent directory publisher in the U.S., announced today that it has acquired App Express, the affordable mobile app builder for small and medium-sized businesses. This strategic addition will allow User Friendly Media to rapidly expand its mobile strategy and offer a full suite of print and digital products that connect buyers and sellers.
The acquisition is a natural evolution of a reseller partnership which was established between the two companies in March. Through the partnership User Friendly Media has been offering the App Express platform to its 30,000 advertisers, helping them build customer loyalty with local mobile consumers.
“Mobile technology is drastically changing the local business landscape and SMBs need a viable mobile strategy to compete for customers,” said Bruce Howard, chief executive officer, User Friendly Media. “Since introducing the App Express platform to our customers roughly six months ago, User Friendly Media has sold over 1,200 App Express apps. User Friendly Media has the expertise and infrastructure needed to allow for the continued rapid growth of App Express.”
“We’re delighted to be a part of User Friendly Media, a company that shares our passion for innovation and empowering small businesses,” said App Express Founder Mary Beth Brendza. “This acquisition gives us the opportunity to accelerate the growth of our mobile platform and provide greater benefits to our partners and their SMB customers.”
App Express will become a separate operating unit within User Friendly Media. Heather Burrer, VP and general counsel for User Friendly Media, will assume the role of chief operating officer of App Express. Mary Beth Brendza will continue to serve in a strategic development role, introducing App Express to potential resellers and working with these resellers to successfully integrate mobile applications into their respective product offerings.
App Express was founded in 2011 by a team of tech-savvy small business experts to bring the power of mobile apps to small and medium-sized businesses. Mobile apps from App Express enable SMBs to open a direct channel of communication with customers to build loyalty, increase efficiency and grow their businesses.
